Appendix 1.26: Valid AJCC 6 Cancer Stages for ICD10CA

To validate the clinical and pathological stage at diagnosis, the ICD-10-CA diagnosis is converted into the appropriate AJCC Site Group using the table in the first spreadsheet in the attached file.  Then the stage is validated using the table in the second sheet.

Stage can be reported using Arabic or Roman numerals, and alpha characters can be either upper or lower case.  (e.g. 2a, 2A, IIa, and IIA are all equivalent and permissible.)  However, for simplicity the second table below only includes Roman numerals with upper case alpha characters.

ICD-10-CA codes not present in the first table are considered non-stageable and are not evaluated in this QA check.  Changes in this edition include the removal of all NOS stage values.  Other additions are highlighted.

Below is a .PDF file highlighting the "Improvements and Changes" for the AJCC Sixth Edition Staging Manual as approved by the American Joint Committee on Cancer, Executive Committee.  Note that the published AJCC Staging Manuals do not include these changes.
